Houses and grand mansions come to life in film, portrayed as scary and intimidating or regal and majestic. In real life, they can be anything from private homes to hotels.
These mansions from popular films or television series are hotels, inns or event venues – step through their doors and judge their off-screen personality.
1. Wilton House
Movies: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Tomb Raider
This United Kingdom 1870s estate home is open for tours April through September. Attend an event like the Wilton Horse Trials and the Wessex Country Fair on the grounds.
2. Highclere Castle
TV Series: Downton Abbey
The castle is the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. Its interior, exhibitions and gardens are open for tours with tickets available for teas, receptions and garden parties.

Passed down for 16 generations, this splendid Bakewell, England, mansion is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Take a guided tour or book a luxurious hotel room on the property.
7. Oheka Castle

Built in 1919 on Long Island, this lavish mansion is home to the Melius family and boasts 32 luxury suites and rooms. Tours of the mansion are held daily, or reserve a table for lunch or dinner.

This 19th-century home-turned-hotel near Stratford-upon-Avon, England, is said to be haunted. The hotel features seasonal events like the “Sherlock Holmes Murder Mystery Evening” with dinner and festive decor.

This 118-bedroom mansion in Windsor is a luxury hotel in the English countryside. Each July the staff hosts a “Time Warp picnic.”
