InterContinental celebrates with art installation

InterContinental is celebrating the upcoming opening of InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, its 200th global destination.

InterContinental is celebrating the upcoming opening of InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland. The opening of the Shanghai hotel marks the hotel chain’s 200th global destination. To celebrate the achievement InterContinental has partnered with artists Haut de Gamme in the creation of a bright, energetic art installation.

British artist Haut de Gamme, also known as Alexander Hall, brings his energetic drip-style art the project. Two hundred individually hand-painted champagne bottles bring the art installation to life. Each of the bottles is painted with a unique flair inspired by every one of the 200 InterContinental destinations. The painted bottles are suspended to reveal the number ‘200’.

Alexander Hall explains his love for champagne, saying that it is aligned with positive feelings such as happiness, joy and celebration. He explains the individuality of each of the bottles and how they also honour the legacy and pioneering spirit of InterContinental’s founder Juan Trippe.

The installation will travel to a number of InterContinental destinations over the next few months. Additionally, Alexander Hall will paint a bespoke Haut de Gamme artwork to further celebrate the achievement, with a limited number of prints on sale.

InterContinental’s newest destination, Shanghai Wonderland is located on the site of a former quarry southwestern Shangai. The building is an 18 story architectural delight, incorporating the design of the of the quarry with the building. 16 of its floors are underground and two underwater. The resort features 337 guest rooms and is located just 30km away from Hongqiao Airport. This truly unconventional space is perfect for as InterContinental’s 200th destination.
