If ever there was a place for fairies, it’s at the bottom of the garden at the new-look Lindenderry Red Hill on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The boutique hotel and winery nestled amid 12 ha of manicured gardens, woodland trails and vineyards has undergone a multi-million-dollar refurbishment by award-winning Australian design team Hecker Guthrie.

Chic rooms dressed in subtle shades of moss green and taupe, plus four communal gathering spaces – including a library – ooze style with plenty of attention to detail.

Here, art and nature blend seamlessly, with picture windows that bring nature inside and stunning artwork including a John Peart painting from Lancemore founder Jan Clark’s art collection.

My revamped garden suite complete with cosy fireplace, soft leather couch, a bed so comfortable it’s hard to leave, well-stocked mini-bar featuring local drops and treats, opens onto the garden that runs down to a secluded lake and nearby tennis court.

Take a dip in the indoor heated pool, walk the romantic garden trails, drop into the winery for a tasting and then venture to The Dining Room for an exciting culinary journey.

Chef Paul Witherington, formerly of London’s Soho House and Port Phillip Estate, weaves his magic with fresh seasonal produce to create outstanding menus of à la carte and degustation menus. It’s an ideal place to unwind and chill with a picnic or game of croquet in those enchanted gardens – a perfect escape.
