Pier One Sydney Harbour
As soon as our teenage daughters abandoned our family holidays, the ‘fur child’ quickly became our travelling companion, so to be able to enjoy a luxe stay at Pier One Sydney Harbour with our pooch Charlie was a welcome treat.
We arrive at Pier One after driving beneath the magnificent arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and marvel at the panoramic views across the harbour and historic Walsh Bay piers. Charlie receives a warm welcome from the staff, as do we … dogs often bring out the friendliness in people.
Our waterside deluxe room is beautifully appointed – a la coastal chic – comfortably sized and opens onto its own deck. Charlie investigates the dog bowls and plush Dogue bedding arranged for her, undertaking a border patrol of the room. All dog-friendly rooms at Pier One Sydney Harbour are pierside, so you can directly access the outdoor wharf areas for any doggie business, plus the local harbourside areas for walks around the Walsh Bay piers, The Rocks, and Barangaroo parklands.
You don’t have to go far to enjoy a dog-friendly venue for dinner. We head to The Kerrigan, the hotel’s smokehouse shack on the adjoining pier, for lip-smacking ribs and burgers, washed down with a cold beer and cocktail by sunset. It’s a pleasure to enjoy such an iconic harbourside area with your pooch companion. I’m sure if Charlie was let out now, she’d be finding her way back to that pierside smokehouse pronto.
