Wine festival returns to Melbourne
Rutherglen in the City is both a wine shop, a wine bar and a festival redefining how to appreciate wine from the Rutherglen region in Victoria
Rutherglen in the City returns to Melbourne this weekend after its successful debut last year. This year, the collective of wineries from North-East Victoria will converge at The Atrium in Federation Square for the two-day wine event, on September 22 and 23.
The informal pop-up wine and cocktail bar will loop in 17 winery cellar doors in an effort to redefine how we drink wine and bring the essence of Rutherglen to the Victorian capital.
Melburnians will be able to personally meet the winemakers during the wine-tasting event, taste a diverse range of wines (including cellar door exclusives), and corkscrew around some of the city’s favourite food trucks (Happy Camper Pizza and Beatbox Kitchen) to find a bite to eat. Visitors will also be able to purchase wine on-the-spot from each winemaker to take home and enjoy.
The hybrid pop-up will also serve some of the region’s best drops, including the world-famous Rutherglen Muscat, which will be served both on the rocks and in cocktails such as the Muscat Nouveau Spritz and Hip Sip Muscat Fruit Cup.

Other wines available for tasting, buying and from the bar include the durif, a bold red that flourishes in Rutherglen’s soil, sparkling shiraz alt aromatic whites such as fiano, marsanne, viognier, roussanne and ugniblanc.
Rutherglen in the City is the best chance for Melburnians to discover one of Australia’s oldest and most authentic wine regions without the three-hour drive to the vineyard-lined hills of Rutherglen. Visit winemakers.com.au
