Stones’ exhibition offers ‘satisfaction’
The Rolling Stones have unlocked their private archive for Exhibitionism, billed as 'one of the greatest Southern Hemisphere events of the decade'
Instead of rolling out a red carpet for the Rolling Stones’ first-ever major exhibition, the curators will position five giant red tongues in landmark locations around the Sydney. Exhibitionism: The Rolling Stones Exhibit will be shown exclusively to Sydney art and music fans at the International Convention Centre (ICC) from November.
Exhibitionism is the largest touring experience of its kind ever to be staged, and the first time in history the band has unlocked its vast private archive. Exhibitionism: The Rolling Stones Exhibit will trace the very beginning of the band’s history to the superstardom it experiences today.
Exhibitionism, which is the first international exhibition on the Rolling Stones, opened to rave reviews in 2016 at The Saatchi Gallery, in London. Combining more than 500 original Stones’ artefacts with cinematic and interactive technologies, the exhibition gives a comprehensive insight into the band’s 50-year history.
The Rolling Stones have shaped popular culture, often in their own image, and this exhibition will offer a unique perspective that only the band’s own archive can provide. Collaborations and works by a vast array of artists, designers, musicians and writers will be included – from Andy Warhol, Shepard Fairey, Alexander McQueen, and Ossie Clark to Tom Stoppard and Martin Scorsese.
Visitors will see previously unseen dressing room and backstage paraphernalia, rare instruments, original stage designs, iconic costumes, rare audio tracks and video footage. The band, with has been wielding its legendary influence on everything from pop culture to fashion for more than 50 years, will also display its personal diaries, poster and album cover artwork. The immersive exhibit will also present wraparound cinematic experiences that celebrate every aspect of the band.
The exhibition, Exhibitionism, will be held from November 17, 2018 through until February 3, 2019. Exhibitionism has been secured exclusively for Sydney by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. Pre-sale tickets for the exhibition are now available.
